For over 100 years, the Humane Society of New York has been a presence in New York City, caring for animals in need when illness, injury or homelessness strikes. In 1904 we were founded to protect the city’s horses against abuse. Members fought for laws to punish negligent owners and place watering troughs in streets and parks. As funds allowed the Society expanded to include a free medical clinic and a small adoption center for cats and dogs. Today our hospital and our Vladimir Horowitz and Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center help more than 34,000 dogs and cats annually, and their numbers continue to grow.

New York City Animal Shelters

New York City Animal Shelters are an amazing place to pick out a lifelong family companion. They are sure to have your next future dog!

Animal SheltersThe next thing to do after selecting a dog from one of the New York City Animal Shelters is to train him. To help you in this area, we’ve created a guide for dog training in New York City. You have several options when it comes to getting your dog trained. A number of new dog owners enroll their dog in a group class usually held at a nearby park or pet store. Others prefer to have their dog trained by a professional dog trainer. This can be a good option but it can also be expensive and cost you several hundred dollars or more. We believe the best option is for you to train your dog yourself, using online videos for guidance. When you train the dog yourself you begin to build a bond between the two of you that lasts his entire life. It’s not only rewarding in that regard but it’s also a lot of fun. Who trains your dog and how he gets trained are big decisions and they can have a lifelong effect on your relationship with him.

Training Your Dog At Home

Shelter Dog TrainingMost dog owners who train their new dog say it’s a very rewarding experience, particularly if you train your dog at home. You and the rescue will feel comfortable in familiar surroundings, making it all the more enjoyable for both of you. Here’s the point. You’ll eventually end up training your dog because you are the one who will be spending thousand of hours with him over a lifetime. Why not start out doing the training with him. To help you with your training, we’ve developed a series of instructional online dog training videos that are affordable and easy-to-implement.

Our Inside Out Basic Obedience Series is an easy-to-use, compassionate series of videos featuring Jason Rae and his breakthrough positive training methods. Jason uses motivation and positive reinforcement rather than force and gets amazing results. You will too. The videos not only cover the how-to in dog training but the psychology of working with dogs and will give you a broader understanding of your relationship with your dog. Another of Jason’s popular series is his Solving Dog Behavior Problems Series, in which he shows how to solve 20 or the most common dog behavior problems using positive methods.

In conclusion, here’s what we recommend … adopt your dog from one of the New York City Animal Shelters and train him yourself using our videos programs for guidance. You’ll be providing your dog with a happier life and building a wonderful lifelong relationship with him.
