So Why Chicago Animal Shelters
PAWS Chicago is the city’s largest No Killhumane organization, focused on solutions to end the killing of homeless pets. Since our founding in 1997, homeless dogs and cats killed annually in the City of Chicago has dropped more than 50 percent. PAWS Chicago is working to build a No Kill Chicago — a city where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless.
Red Door Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter committed to helping animals in need. Its primary focus is on the rescue, shelter and adoption of cats, dogs and rabbits—the three most popular pets in the United States.
C.A.R.E. is an all volunteer organization that works in conjunction with Evanston’s municipal Animal Shelter to find homes for the unwanted and abandoned animals that are brought to the shelter. Since our inception in 1987, C.A.R.E. has been responsible for the adoption of thousands of dogs and cats that would have otherwise been euthanized. C.A.R.E. provides medical treatment and conducts all adoptions for the shelter animals.
We usually have dogs, cats, kittens, and lots of mixed breed puppies for adoption. Most of our puppies are from dogs that accidentally got bred, so most of the time we only know the breed of one parent. We do NOT buy animals from breeders. Please call for the most up-to-date information as to what we have available. Maybe your next best friend is here waiting for you!
The Assisi Animal Foundation (AAF) is dedicated to providing shelter, care and, when appropriate, re-homing suitable animals to caring, permanent homes. We abide by a no-kill policy, which allows for euthanasia only under professional veterinary assessment, recommendation and administration in cases of terminal illness which cause suffering, in cases of injury too severe to repair, or in cases of such severe aggression that it is a threat to other shelter residents and caregivers is present.
