Animal Care and Control helps keep Fort Worth citizens safe by providing pet-care education and services. These programs work to reduce the number of unwanted stray animals in the city, minimize the threat of diseases such as rabies, and prevent injuries caused by animals. Annually, approximately 4,500 adoptable dogs and cats wind up abandoned at the City of Fort Worth’s animal shelter, but prior to 2010, less than 50 percent of these animals found adoptive homes. Animal Care and Control offers educational programs and shelter tours to keep residents informed on how they can reduce the pet overpopulation in Fort Worth.
E-mail Animal Care and Control or call 817-392-7013 to sign up for an educational presentation or shelter tour. Registration for the Responsible Pet Ownership class must be completed in person at the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Center.

Fort Worth Animal Shelters

Fort Worth Animal Shelters are an amazing place to pick out a lifelong family companion. They are sure to have your next future dog!

Animal SheltersAfter you decide to get a dog at one of the local Fort Worth Animal Shelters, you’ll want to get him trained as soon as possible. A well-trained dog is a happy dog … and a happy owner. Determining whom and how you want your dog trained is a big decision and can be time consuming. We’ve developed a guide for dog training in Fort Worth that we believe you’ll find helpful. Some new dog owners enroll their dog in a group training session, usually held at a nearby park or local pet store. Many others prefer to have someone else train their dog and hire a professional dog trainer. This can, however, prove to be quite costly as many dog trainers can charge several hundred dollars or more to train a dog. We think the best way to train your dog is to train him yourself. It’s not only the most rewarding but it’ll help you build a bond with your dog that will last a lifetime.

Training Your Dog At Home

Shelter Dog TrainingOne thing that we always recommend you do is train your dog at home. A familiar surrounding is pleasant for both you and your dog and it’ll save you a lot of money. And, it’s a lot more fun than having someone else train your dog. Here’s an interesting fact. You will eventually train the dog yourself, regardless if you had someone else do the training in the first place. Why? Because he’s going to be spending his entire life with you. Why not train the dog yourself in the beginning using our affordable and easy-to-use online dog training video programs for guidance.

Our Inside Out Basic Obedience Series feature Jason Rae and his breakthrough positive reinforcement training methods that produce amazing results. The videos cover the how-to in dog training and the psychology of working with dogs. Another popular series you’ll want to watch is Jason’s Solving Dog Behavior Problems Series. In it, Jason shows new dog owners how to fix their dog’s behavior problems using only positive techniques, not intimidation or force. Using these videos to train your dog or fix his problems can save you a lot of money. The videos show Jason solving 20 of the most common dog behavior problems.

Here are the things we want you to remember … get your dog from one of the Fort Worth Animal Shelters and train him yourself using our videos for guidance. We promise you’ll be happy with the results.
