Salmonella Outbreak in Dog Food

A dry Dog Food recall of at least 12 brands of food made by Diamond Pet Foods has been put into effect. At least 14 people have reported becoming sick with salmonella of which 5 have been hospitalized. People can contract the illness by not washing their hands after coming in contact with the dry dog food. According to the CDC the Pet foods have infected people in nine states including, Connecticut, Alabama, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Diamond Pet Foods make many very popular brands and you or someone you know may be handling this dog food right now. Below is a list of the brands and batches of dry food that is on the recall list, check it out and share this with anyone you know who has a dog.

Apex

As of January 2012 Apex is issuing a voluntary recall of batches of dog food, although no outbreak of salmonella has been reported they are recalling the dry dog foods “Out of Caution for their customers and their pets”.

What to do next?

Salmonella is very serious, if you have identified any of the recalled brands of food immediately discard the remaining food and don’t handle it. If you are not sure if you have an infected bag of dog food it’s better to be safe than sorry and just get a new bag. Your Health and the health of you dog are at risk.
